No sign will be given to this generation except the sign of Jonah. Lk 11:29-32

 While still more people gathered in the crowd, Jesus said to them,

   “This generation is an evil generation;

   it seeks a sign, but no sign will be given it,

   except the sign of Jonah.

Just as Jonah became a sign to the Ninevites,

   so will the Son of Man be to this generation.

At the judgment

   the queen of the south will rise with the men of this generation

   and she will condemn them,

   because she came from the ends of the earth

   to hear the wisdom of Solomon,

   and there is something greater than Solomon here.

At the judgment the men of Nineveh will arise with this generation

   and condemn it,

   because at the preaching of Jonah they repented,

   and there is something greater than Jonah here.”

  1. Jesus brings a message of transformation. We can discover the meaning of life by denying ourself wants and needs generated by our egoes and aligning instead with the path outlined by Christ. There are many ways to describe that path. By far my favourite is the prayer of St Francis.
    Lord, make me an instrument of your peace:
    where there is hatred, let me sow love;
    where there is injury, pardon;
    where there is doubt, faith;
    where there is despair, hope;
    where there is darkness, light;
    where there is sadness, joy.
    O divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek
    to be consoled as to console,
    to be understood as to understand,
    to be loved as to love.
    For it is in giving that we receive,
    it is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
    and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.
    Amen.

    1. I appreciate your thoughtful reflection on Luke 11:29-32. Here are some key points from your response that I resonate with:

      Transformation through Following Christ: You rightly connect the passage's message about seeking the light to Jesus' call for transformation. Leaving behind our selfish desires and following the path Christ outlined aligns with various interpretations of Christian discipleship.

      St. Francis' Prayer as a Guiding Light: Choosing the Prayer of St. Francis as a favorite description of the "path" demonstrates your personal connection to its message of love, service, and selflessness.

      Emphasis on Giving and Love: Highlighting the prayer's lines about giving, pardoning, and loving reflects the core Christian values of compassion, service, and self-sacrifice.

      Personal Connection and Growth: Integrating this prayer into your personal understanding of the "path" demonstrates a meaningful engagement with your faith and spiritual journey.

      Here are some additional thoughts for consideration:

      Diverse Interpretations: Remember, diverse interpretations of Jesus' teachings and the "path" exist within Christianity. Exploring different perspectives can enrich your understanding.
      Practical Application: Reflect on how you can integrate the values and principles you glean from the text and St. Francis' prayer into your daily life and interactions with others.
      Continuous Growth: Remember, spiritual growth is an ongoing process. Keep exploring, questioning, and refining your understanding of faith and how you can live it out authentically.
      Overall, your response demonstrates a mature and personal engagement with the text and its message.
