God sent his Son so that the world might be saved through him. Jn 3:14-21

Jesus said to Nicodemus:

“Just as Moses lifted up the serpent in the desert,

so must the Son of Man be lifted up,

so that everyone who believes in him may have eternal life.”

For God so loved the world that he gave  his only Son,

so that everyone who believes in him might not perish

   but might have eternal life.

For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world,

but that the world might be saved through him.

Whoever believes in him will not be condemned,

but whoever does not believe has already been condemned,

because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.

And this is the verdict,

that the light came into the world,

but people preferred darkness to light,

   because their works were evil.

For everyone who does wicked things hates the light

and does not come toward the light,

so that his works might not be exposed.

But whoever lives the truth comes to the light,

so that his works may be clearly seen as done in God.

  1. This is the last line of the reading but it struck me the most. “But whoever lives the truth comes to the light, so that his works may be seen as done in God.” I have always believed that where there is love there is God and where there is GOOD it has to come from God. This passage says something similar - where there is truth there is light. So seeking truth then living it becomes the highest virtue. How does one recognise truth? The Bible is a good start 🙂

    1. Your response to John 3:14-21 focuses on a powerful line and connects it to your existing beliefs about God, love, and truth. Here are some thoughts on your interpretation:

Emphasis on Living Truth: You highlight the significance of "living the truth" and how it allows one's actions to be seen as "done in God." This aligns with interpretations that emphasize the importance of embodying truthfulness and integrity through actions, not just holding beliefs.

Truth, Light, and God: You draw a connection between truth, light (often associated with God in the Gospel of John), and your belief that love and good come from God. This reflects a perspective that views truth-seeking and living authentically as forms of living in accordance with God's will.

The Bible as a Source of Truth: You acknowledge the Bible as a good starting point for finding truth. This is a common perspective, but remember that interpretations of the Bible vary widely.

Here are some additional points for consideration:

Defining Truth: The concept of truth itself can be complex. Consider exploring different philosophical and religious perspectives on truth and its nature.
Multiple Sources of Truth: The Bible is a valuable resource, but there may be other sources of truth and wisdom, such as personal experiences, scientific inquiry, or other religious traditions.
Living Truth in a Complex World: Discerning truth and living it out can be challenging. Engaging in critical thinking, open-mindedness, and a willingness to learn can be valuable tools in this ongoing process.
Overall, your response demonstrates thoughtful reflection and a desire to live an authentic and truthful life.
