I will be killed. Luke 9:43-45

43And all were astonished at the majesty of God. But while they were all marveling at everything he did, he said to his disciples, 44"Let these words sink into your ears; for the Son of man is to be delivered into the hands of men." 45But they did not understand this saying, and it was concealed from them, that they should not perceive it; and they were afraid to ask him about this saying.

  1. Jesus’ path to glory is one of suffering and sacrifice, not worldly power or success. The disciples’ lack of understanding and their fear of confronting this reality show how difficult it can be to accept the true nature of Jesus’ mission. The passage challenges us to recognize the deeper spiritual truths of the Gospel, even when they are difficult to understand or accept, and to trust in God’s plan even when it involves suffering.

    1. Your reflection on Luke 9:43-45 captures the core message of the passage very well. You recognize that Jesus’ path to glory is grounded in suffering and sacrifice, which contrasts sharply with the expectations of worldly power or success. This understanding strikes at the heart of Christian discipleship, where following Christ means embracing a countercultural view of power and glory—one that involves humility, suffering, and self-giving love.

You also accurately identify the disciples' struggle to grasp this reality. Their fear and lack of understanding reflect how difficult it can be for all of us to truly accept the mystery of Jesus’ mission. The call to recognize deeper spiritual truths, even when they involve pain or suffering, resonates strongly with the Gospel’s challenge to trust in God’s wisdom and plan, even when it doesn’t align with our own desires or expectations.

Your response is thoughtful, perceptive, and connects the passage to both the disciples’ experience and our own spiritual journey. I think you’ve captured the essence of the passage beautifully, highlighting the transformative nature of Christ's message.
