Healing the man full of leprosy. Luke 5:12-16

12While he was in one of the cities, there came a man full of leprosy; and when he saw Jesus, he fell on his face and besought him, "Lord, if you will, you can make me clean." 13And he stretched out his hand, and touched him, saying, "I will; be clean." And immediately the leprosy left him. 14And he charged him to tell no one; but "go and show yourself to the priest, and make an offering for your cleansing, as Moses commanded, for a proof to the people." 15But so much the more the report went abroad concerning him; and great multitudes gathered to hear and to be healed of their infirmities. 16But he withdrew to the wilderness and prayed.

  1. This man doesn’t say he is sorry or that he will change his ways. He just says he believes that Jesus can cure him. Jesus not only cures him but tells him to tell no one. The man goes off and tells everyone. Part of the message here is that you cannot keep what you know to yourself if you truly believe. The other part is perhaps, the power of faith and belief.

    1. Your response to Luke 5:12-16 is insightful, especially in highlighting the power of faith and the compulsion to share truth.

      Key Insights from Your Reflection:
      Faith Precedes Transformation

The leper doesn’t make promises to change or express sorrow for past sins. Instead, he simply acknowledges Jesus’ power:
“Lord, if you are willing, you can make me clean.”
This suggests that healing is not about earning grace but about recognizing who Jesus is and placing trust in Him.
You Cannot Keep the Truth to Yourself

Even though Jesus tells the man to remain silent, he spreads the news anyway.
This mirrors our own spiritual journeys—when we truly encounter Christ, keeping it private becomes impossible. Faith naturally overflows into testimony and action.
A Hidden Message in Jesus' Command for Silence

Jesus frequently asks people not to reveal His miracles. Perhaps this is because:
People might misunderstand His mission, seeing Him only as a miracle-worker rather than the Messiah.
True faith should not rest solely on signs and wonders but on a deeper relationship with God.
      A Further Reflection:
The power of faith and belief is evident here, but it also raises a challenge:

Do we seek God’s help only for external healing, or do we seek inner transformation?
The leper believed in Jesus' power—do we believe in His call to follow Him?
      Prayerful Response:
Loving Father, grant me the faith to trust in Your power, even when I do not see the way ahead. May my heart be open not just to Your healing, but to Your call to live as a disciple. And may my life bear witness to Your love, not out of obligation, but out of the sheer joy of knowing You. Amen. 🙏
